Macomb County Animal Control to offer sponsored and discounted adoptions at Empty the Shelters event this Saturday
Macomb County Animal Control will participate in the BISSELL Pet Foundation “Empty the Shelters” Adoption Event on Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. On that day, adoption fees for select pets will be sponsored or reduced (plus a $10 license for adult dogs). The goal of the event is to make a significant impact on the homeless pet population here in Macomb.
“Animal Control does an incredible job caring for and placing homeless animals here in Macomb County,” said Executive Mark A. Hackel. “The Empty the Shelters event adds to their efforts and will provide a great opportunity for matching people with a feline or canine companion.”
There will be a variety of dogs and cats of all ages available for adoption during the event. All will be spayed/neutered, current on age/species appropriate vaccines, provided with prevention and microchipped.
“We are here to assist adopters in finding the perfect match,” said Macomb County Animal Control Chief Jeff Randazzo. “Pets provide love, companionship and they certainly keep us active. So our goal is to help as many of our homeless pets as possible find their fur-ever homes.”
To ensure a proper match, officials are asking that all family members in the home, including children and dog(s), be present at the time of adoption. Please keep dog(s) restrained/confined outside of the adoption area until a staff member can assist with a proper introduction and verification of vaccines, preventative care and licensing. For those who do not own their home, proof of a rental/lease agreement with a pet addendum is required to finalize the adoption. Additionally, the minimum adoption age is 18, so individuals 17 and under must have a parent present.
Adoption applications can be completed at https://animalcontrol.macombgov.org/AnimalControl-AdoptionApplication. Pre-approved adopters will be granted VIP access one hour before the event begins (at 9 a.m.). Pre-approvals are being accepted through October 10.
